2025 Kraut Racing Report:

Kraut Racing at AHRMA’s 20th Barber Vintage Festival Oct. 2nd-5th 2025

Marc and Franny, representing Kraut Racing, attended and raced at the AHRMA’s 20th Barber Vintage Festival. This was what we had been working towards all year. We drove from Santa Fe to Birmingham in 2 1/2 days. We had raced there 11 years ago in 2014 so we both had to relearn the track. Marc’s friend Andrew came up from Atlanta GA to help out in the pits and pick up a bike he bought that we hauled for him. Weather was absolutely perfect for racing. Warm and slightly overcast. So many beautiful machines from the past and present. So many talented riders from many different age groups both men and women!

The level of competition is really mindblowing! Being the 20th anniversary of the Festival and the size of the purse, the pros showed up. Through sponsors and donations there was $3,000 in purse money to be had in the Pro Challenge Race. BMW had Nate Kern – who is BMW’s Brand Ambassador and runs and instructs the DoubleR Fests around the US – and his pit crew, showed up and raced in the SOT2 on his fully race-modified R9T. Not surprisingly he placed first! He also led the track walk on Wednesday October 1st.  By the way – Marc also raced in the SOT2 Race Saturday and Sunday. Stefano Mesa who races with Moto America’s team TopPro Motorsports, was there on a classic Ducati, a 20-year-old 749RS, provided by Boulder Motorsports. The old machine proved it’s still got it because he was able to win the Pro Callenge Race with that 20-year old machine!

Results: Race day 1

Bears, Marc 6th out of 16

SOT2, Marc 26th out of 42

F500, Franny 9th out of 13

F250, Franny 5th out of 8

Race day 2

Bears, Marc 2nd out of 12

SOT2, Marc 16th out of 31

F500, Franny 6th out of 10

F250, Franny 4 out of 8

Franny had issues with her rear suspension and chassis so that was the downside. We worked to solve the problem on site but we were not able to get to the bottom of the problem until we got home, dismantled the swing arm, and discovered the bushings on the swing arm and the collar bolt had become notched. This greatly diminshed the speed at which the Honda could go as the shimmy got worse with increased speed and cornering. This was disappointing but Franny ran every practice and started and finished every race. In her final race F250 there were 3 red flags and 2 re-starts which means: excellent opportunity to practice the launch off-the-line and to NOT crash at the end of 2 days of racing. There were 4 riders that went down in that race!

Kraut Racing at SMRI’s Saturday Track Day and Sunday Race Day, Sept. 20th-21st

Kraut Racing was back at the Suika Circuit in Albuquerque with SMRI. Marc and Franny were on their vintage machines – Marc’s BMW R75/5 and Franny’s Honda CB400F – doing a test and tune for the Barber Vintage Festival coming up October 2nd – 5th. Lance was on his Ninja 400 and Kawasaki 636,  – took 3 Firsts and Third!!!! Marc Underwood brought out the gold: a factory race Aprilia RSV4 new to him with lots of bells and whistles, he took 3 firsts and a second!!!! Abigail Schmidt was on a new to her Aprilia 660 and only did the morning of the track day because… she ran a 1/2 marathon on Sunday!!!! Marc took 2 firsts!!!! Franny took 3 firsts and a 5th!!!!

The only drama was Franny Honda CB400F developed a mechanical problem after lunch on track day so Marc Beyer chased down the issue all the way to Sunday morning just before racing began. What was it??? A partially severed wire going to one of the igniton coils hidden under the wiring harness cover. Whew! Problems like these directly after an engine rebuild are very worrisome. The bike ran great!

Also – Marc Underwood lost his front fender in his last race and broke off a bracket on the front fork. He came in 2nd place regardless of this! Takes incredible focus and drive to push through.

About Marc and Franny’s preparation for racing in the Barber Vintage Festival: Everthing is on track. Marc got new valve covers for his beemer and with sliders welded on, a new rear wheel to accomodate available vintage race tires, and fresh head-set bearings. Franny had to do a complete bottom and top engine rebuild! It has been a fast paced journey to get the bike ready in time with Dyno runs at the famous Jim Mosher’s on his dyno. Jim also did the machine work on the head. The 400F also has on board a new front brake master cylinder, a high pressure oil pump, and oil pressure and neutral light indicators. The Sprinter has been serviced and we are ready to roll! It has really taken a team of people.

Kraut Racing at SMRI Saturday August 23 and ASMA Sunday, August 24th

Kraut Racing did a double header: Saturday August 23rd at Suika Circuit with SMRI and Sunday August 24th at Arroyo Seco Raceway with ASMA. Marc and Franny were the only team members to make the ASMA track day on Sunday. Both days were hot but fun! Present were Franny, Marc Beyer, Adah Burke, Marc Underwood, and Abigail Schmidt. Lance Echols was on duty at the SMRI track day but due to injury, stayed off the track.

SMRI Last Race Day of 2024 10-12-24 at Suika Circuit Speedway

Kraut Racing attended the last raceday of the 2024 season. We have a new team member, Marc Underwood #321 also known as Bison Marc so as not to confuse him with Marc Beyer. He is riding a Honda CBR retired from a Moto America  Team. He is getting real fast real quick! Lance has a new Kawasaki Ninja 400 and is also riding his Kawasaki Ninja 636. Marc is back with Suzuki SV650 and Franny has a KTM RC390 that is new to her.  That was the line up for 2024!

SMRI Track Days April 20th – 21st at Suika Speedway (formerly Sandia)

Kraut Racing went to the first Track Day weekend of 2024. It was a double header and very fun Saturday the standard configuration was run and Sunday the alternate configuration was run. Marc Beyer 673 on his SV650, Franny Sayre 333 on her KTM 390 (new to her), and Greg Steroski on his three bikes: SV650, Ducati 999, and his Aprilia RSV4 rounded out Kraut Racing representation. The weather was perfect!

The new track owners really have improved the track with special coating, filling in cracks and imperfections, and the pit area was very clean. Sandia BMW sponsored this weekend and had a food truck for all attendees to have lunch!

The North-South Challege is a series of races between the two clubs SMRI and ASMA with points tracked. Arroyo Seco Motorcycle Association racing club managed by Roger Heembergen in Deming New Mexico came up and made this a well attended and exciting day. The weather hit triple digits and tire pressure had to be adjusted to make sure we weren’t sliding on the burning hot track. We brought misters and electrolite drinks to keep us alert and cool.
