October 19th and 20th was the last track and race weekend SMRI put on for the season at Sandia Speedway sponsored by Triumph Albuquerque. Kraut Racing made it down and we had some awesome results and a ton of fun!
On race day, Marc and Franny were asked to participate in a podcast as part of a series of podcasts produced by Rust is Gold Racing Steven ‘Fenix’ Maes, Thaison ‘Hollywood’ Garcia founder of Rust is Gold Antiques and owner of Rust is Gold Coffee Shop, and Christopher ‘Sparky’ Franco. Stay tuned for the link!
Adah Burke brought her track bike down for the Saturday track day. Kraut Racing sponsored by OCD Custom Cycles & Auto Repair prepared her GSXR 750 for the event. She rode like she never missed a beat even though it had been about a year and half since she was on the track.
Marc Beyer 673 and Philip Hale 43 had some fun on the track! Marc was on his SV650 and Philip brought his Kramer super mono out as well as his SV650.
There is much camaraderie in the pits. Advise, discussions, memories and of course fun. This is our track family.
Now, on to race day. The attitudes get more serious and the scramble to get everything ready on time for your race. Your friends become your competitors. The weather was very cold in the morning and the wind was blowing hard by the afternoon. The races were shortened to 6 laps to get it all in before we got blown away. Philip Hale was not able to participate in race day. He had a low side on his new bike and hurt his ribs. Phil goes all out all the time. We really admire his skill. This is the attitude a racer needs to take to win but sometimes we go down.
The Middle Weight Vintage grid had 4 bikes for the first time in years. Very exciting: Dennis, Franny, Marc, Thaison. Marc took first, Franny took second, Thaison took third, and Dennis’s bike crapped out and he had to pull off.
And that is all folks for SMRI Race Season 2019!
