Kraut Racing Goes to Hastings Nebraska for AHRMA Race #5

Marc and Frances are ready for another AHRMA Racing adventure! We load the Sprinter and Race trailer and take off May 28th for Hastings NE. Neither of us has been to Nebraska and up till now we have not had a good reason to go. The route we take is I25, 56/412 briefly through Oaklahoma, then on to 56 in Kansas. This route on 56 through Kansas shows how little anything has changed since 1950s. We were in the bread basket of America with tiny towns along the road and many huge cement grain silos. We turn North at Great Bend on 218. This is where we found the beuatiful FREE campground called Cheyenne Bottoms. It was raining cats and dogs the first night but very cozy.

The next morning we drive a short distance over the border into Nebraska and on to Motorsports Park Hastings known as MPH. We were very early and couldn’t set up until 4:30pm. We scouted out what we thought was a good pit area for the Sprinter Van and put up cones to mark our space. We looked for our fellow New Mexicans to come. Dennis, Joe and Ennis showed up from New Mexico. We set up our pit area in the rain. Evenutally it stopped! Next that evening was the track walk with Nick Ienatsch and Shane Turpin. They gave us pointers on how to ride the track with the fastest line. It started raining again!

We explored the other pit areas the first couple days. There were so many amazing machines! The Panigale was hand made in Borgo Panigale and worth a pretty penny. Friday was a practice day with everyone getting 6 sessions. Saturday was practice in the morning and racing in the afternoon. Saturday night awards are given out for the results that day. Sunday was race all day until 3pm. Marc took two seconds in Bears, in the middle of the pack in the SOT2 races. Franny took a 1st and then a 2nd in the F500, and 2 4th places in F250. Hastings track was very fast due to the 2 long straights put together in an L shape and the long front straight. Many more racers came compared to the Inde races. At 3pm on Sunday we had packed up and got out of there by 4pm. We went back to the old faithful Cheyenne Bottoms Campground. We were back home in Santa Fe on Monday around 3pm.

AHRMA Race 5/31/25, Motorsports Park Hastings NE, GP 250 class. The video below shows the Le Mans-style start where the racer is on the other side of the track, their partner holds the bike. When the green flag goes down, the racer runs across the track and pop starts the bike, jumps on and races away.
