This was our first MotoGP trip since COTA. A small group of us went to Austin Texas: Marc, Lance, Adah, and Franny. Friday night we went to the AF1 Racing party to kick off the weekend. We got goodie bags with t-shirts and stickers.
Day 1 at the track we watched qualifying and the MotoGP Sprint Race. This is a new event for 2023. The MotoGP Racers go at it for only 8 laps on the Saturday before the big race day. We went to the Iron Works BBQ in downtown Austin where we ran into Matt of EME (Euro MotoElectrics). EME has been our vendor for many years and it was nice to put a face to the voice on the phone.
We then headed off to the now famous Handbuilt Show. This show is always very inspiring. Only a few of the many pictures are shared in this post. The craftsmanship, technical expertise, and creativity are amazing!
podium places went to: Day 2 was Sunday the main event! Moto 3, Moto2, and then the full length MotoGP. We started the day off with some Lucha Libre in one of the event tents!
We had excellent seats to see the races, the top of turn 15. They came with access to the VIP Lounge. Moto3 always amazes. These young racers seem that they don’t care if they even live through the race. It is all out!
The MotoGP race this year was unusual in that 8 racers crashed out so the field became much smaller. This was thought to be due to the condition of the track.
The podium places went to: Alex Rins taking his third win in six races, by 3.498 seconds over Luca Marini, who took his first MotoGP podium in second. Third place went to Fabio Quartararo his first podium since Malaysia 2022.
Track walk after the MotoGP race.
We ended the weekend with a trip to Blacks BBQ. They are having their 90-year anniversary this year!
